E-Scrap Company Agrees to Recycle Abandoned CRTs at Warehouses

Norcross, Ga.-headquartered electronics recycling company CompuPoint USA has reached an agreement on warehouse owners regarding cleanup of piled up CRT materials, which it had originally shipped to Closed Loop Refining and Recovery. The company had supplied around 3 million pounds of CRT materials. The settlement agreement was reached on September 1, 2020.

In contrast to recent agreements made by companies, by which checks were paid to landlords towards cost of cleaning up the materials, the CompuPoint agreement commits to collect, ship and recycle material from Garrison Southfield Park and Olymbec USAwarehouses. The company had shipped over 2.9 million pounds of CRT material to Closed Loop between August 2012 and January 2016.

In a statement filed with the court, the company stated that the company’s financial position doesn’t allow it to pay the settlement amount. Instead, it has agreed to recycle at its own expense, the materials it had earlier shipped to the Closed Loop site. In addition, it has agreed to bear all expenses for collecting and transporting an equivalent volume of e-waste, for which CompuPoint will be paid prevailing market rates for recycling the material.

The agreement states that the company would have to comply with federal, state and local laws in collecting, shipping and recycling of the CRT materials.
