A lithium-ion battery primarily consists of a casing, a cathode, an anode, an electrolyte, and a separator. SUNYGROUP’s production line for the crushing, sorting, and recycling of waste lithium-ion batteries features industrial automation, high recovery efficiency, robust processing capacity, and a recycling rate exceeding 90%.
A professional process for the dismantling and treatment of waste lithium-ion batteries can be broadly divided into the following key steps:
1. Discharging and Pre-treatment: Waste lithium-ion batteries typically retain a certain amount of residual charge. Specialized discharging equipment is used to safely release this remaining energy, thereby completely eliminating the risks of spontaneous combustion or short circuits. Subsequently, the batteries undergo preliminary sorting based on their type, form, and specifications.
2. Crushing and Dismantling: Once safely discharged, the batteries are fed into the core crushing equipment. Specialized lithium-ion battery crushers must operate within a sealed environment protected by an inert gas atmosphere to prevent the heat and sparks generated during the crushing process from igniting flammable substances, such as the electrolyte.
3. Fine Sorting: The crushed material consists of a mixture of metals, plastics, cathode and anode "black powder," and other components. The subsequent critical step involves separating these materials with high efficiency and purity.
4. Resource Utilization: Through a multi-stage sorting process, we ultimately obtain high-purity copper granules, aluminum granules, and black powder. These metallic materials can be directly utilized as high-quality raw materials for smelting. The black powder, meanwhile, can undergo subsequent hydrometallurgical or pyrometallurgical processes to extract key battery raw materials—such as lithium carbonate, cobalt sulfate, and nickel sulfate—which are then reused to manufacture new lithium-ion batteries, thereby achieving a true closed-loop recycling system.
