Ohio landlords have named electronics stewardship organization MRM as a defendant in its new lawsuit over CRT stockpiles at Ohio warehouses.
The lawsuit filed by Garrison Southfield Park and Olymbec USA also names nine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)- ASUS Computer International, Dell Technologies, Haier America, LG Electronics USA, Micro Center, Premio, Samsung Electronics America, Sony Electronics and Westinghouse Digital.
According to estimates, the two warehouses hold an estimated 158 million pounds of CRT materials, which were abandoned by Closed Loop Refining and Recovery, when it shut its doors in 2016. The initial lawsuit filed in March last year had cited around 40 e-scrap companies, asking their help in cleaning up the sites. Out of this, nearly 24 companies have already reached settlements with the landlords, having agreed to bear the cleanup costs.
The amended lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, names the above nine OEMs and MRM as defendants and claims that they are legally responsible to provide financial support for the cleanup. It also alleged that the OEMs are equally responsible, as they knew or should have known that the material would not be properly recycled.
