A common glass solar panel is manufactured by bringing together 6 different components, these components mainly include silicon solar cells, metal frame, glass plate, standard 12V wires and busbars. Most of the materials in waste solar panels can be recycled and reused, the main parts are as follows:
Silicon solar cells (monocrystalline/polycrystalline/Sunpower)
Silicon solar cells use the photovoltaic effect to convert sunlight into electricity. The silicon cells, welded together in a matrix-like configuration between the glass plates, interact with the thin glass sheets to generate an electric charge.
Glass plate (tempered glass)
The tempered glass on the outside is usually 6-7 mm thick (this depends on the size of the solar panel), although it is thin, it plays a big role in protecting the silicon solar cells inside. At the same time, it also plays an important role in the power generation of solar panels, with high light transmittance.
Metal frame (usually aluminum alloy)
A solar panel's metal frame serves many purposes; protecting from harsh weather conditions or other hazardous situations, and helping to adjust the solar panel installation at the desired angle.
Aside from the solar cells themselves, a standard solar panel includes a glass enclosure on the front of the panel for added durability and protection from the silicon PV.
Under the glass enclosure, the panels have an outer shell for insulation and a protective backsheet, which helps limit heat loss and humidity within the panel. Insulation is especially important because increased temperatures will result in a drop in efficiency, reducing the energy output of the solar panel.
Bus
Bus bars are used to connect parallel silicon solar cells. The bus bars are covered with a thin layer of solder for easy soldering and thick enough to carry the current.
